Angela Bortel

Ms. Bortel also has a deep commitment to public service, as demonstrated by her involvement with non-profit human rights organizations in the United States and the Russian Federation.
She received her juris doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley (Boalt Hall). As a U.S. State Department/IREX Young Leadership Fellow, Ms. Bortel also attended Moscow State University. Prior to that, she completed her bachelor’s degree at Kalamazoo College in Michigan.
Ms. Bortel has extensive experience living and working abroad. She lived in St. Petersburg and Moscow, Russia, where she attended Moscow State University and worked with women’s human rights organizations combating human trafficking. After graduating from college, she received a prestigious teaching position at Lycée Pierre du Terrail in Pontcharra, France. Ms. Bortel has also worked in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. She is fluent in French and Russian, and speaks some Spanish.
She also represents musicians, fine artists and other creative talents in managing the business side of their craft. This is thanks to her mother’s formidable history as a singer.
